The rise of 3DPG fountains in practical application.

Once There Was A Problem

Job sites can get crazy. Construction is not known for its easy and problem-free nature. If you have ever been on a job site, you know that it is chaos. And chaos causes problems. But what happens when the concrete gets poured before the plumbing is finished? Well, this is exactly what happened at a job site in Riverton, Utah. This high-end residential complex had run into a high-pressure problem!

Now that a problem had occurred, it was time to solve it. The poured concrete patio was specified as a statement-making fountain piece, but the aquatics hardware needed to be routed underneath the concrete. Since this was no longer possible without adding greatly to the cost of the project, the developers began to look into alternatives, including 3DPG fountains.

The primary requirement for the new fountain was holding a self-contained aquatics system. That includes pumps, pipes, lighting, and filters. A CIP fountain wouldn’t work because it would limit access to the aquatics, and when winter came around that would be a disaster! Luckily, 3DPG seemed to be the perfect option. The hollow nature of 3DPG allows for all of the aquatic hardware to be easily installed without any worries.

Once the developer discovered Pikus, they ran with it. They saw the design possibilities and decided to push past the limits of what would have been possible with traditional CIP. Ultimately the design became a fountain with several tiers of flowing water surrounded by seating and multi-use planters. The fountain could be easily moved if needed and dropped right into place at the job site. It was the perfect solution to this otherwise expensive problem.

Getting In The Rythm

The fountain feature was successful! Easy to maintain and quick to install it was the ideal fountain for the community. The developers were highly impressed by the quality and consistency of the fountain. It was amazing to see the speed of printing and installation. What an exciting day the installation of this fountain was! When the fountain was lit and the water was running, it was clear that the water feature was meant to be there despite the problems on the job site.

This water feature was the first of its kind, but not anywhere near the last. Because of the versatile and simple nature of 3DPG, the developers saw use for Pikus Products on multiple other projects across the state.
